This project was done during the second semester of my first year in Carnegie Mellon’s architecture program. The assignment was to create a cubic, contemplative space that could only utilize natural light, situated by Forbes Avenue in Pittsburgh. Each face of the cubic structure can only have one opening. In my project, natural light is primarily used to suggest a sequence and spacial hierarchy through my chapel, as well as to create an ephemeral, spiritual presence. A reflective pool allows for reflected ambient light to enter into the primary contemplative space through a small opening, allowing for interesting, otherworldly lighting qualities.
All renderings and drawings were done in Rhino and Photoshop. All technical drawings were done in AutoCAD and Rhino.
